Life is not cheap, which is why it is incredibly important to acquire the life skill of financial literacy. The New Mexico Jump$tart Coalition for Financial Literacy is increasing access to resources and personal finance education for all New Mexicans.
The organization provides financial education resources, stock market simulations, and more, with a focus on educating children from Kindergarten through 12th grade. “Financial literacy is really about having the knowledge and the skills to manage your resources effectively so that you can make your dreams come true,” says Ann Swickard Chavez, the president of New Mexico Jump$tart.
The past president of New Mexico Jump$tart, Steven Rogers, says the coalition acts as a form of poverty prevention, educating the country’s children before they have to learn by making their own financial mistakes. In celebration of Financial Literacy Month, the coalition is holding a variety of education events in New Mexico throughout April.
